ST MICHAELS COVID-19 LETTER TO THE PARISH ~CURRENT SITUATION~
Dear St Michael's,
A letter to everyone at St Michael’s to let you know, at really short notice, that since we have had cases of COVID-19 within our community, it is with huge regret that the Bishop has agreed to my request to close St Michael’s for public worship with immediate effect to be reviewed at the end of the month, a decision taken with a heavy heart for us all, as I had hoped it might have been possible to reduce further the numbers of public masses and to provide the high level of protection and compliance that we have been providing up to now.
While we only know of one case in the Parish, and having followed due diligence in tracking and tracing to satisfy ourselves that there are no further infections, the new variant of the virus is far more virulent, and transmission of the new variant is growing exponentially. We have a high number of very vulnerable people in our Parish who we need to protect.
Numbers of Parishioners attending Mass are decreasing as a result of the new variant, and we need teams of people willing to steward and sanitise after each use of the Church, and their numbers are decreasing too, and so after much heart searching I’ve decided there is no alternative but to close, sooner rather than later.
THERE WILL THEREFORE BE NO PUBLIC ACTS OF WORSHIP AT ST MICHAELS WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT.
Our Masses will continue to be live streamed at 09.30am on Sundays as usual and on Wednesdays at 9.30am. We will also be taking steps to provide support to those who are lonely and for whom this closure will be doubly distressing and will be reviewing the position at the end of January.
With all kind regards, as we pray the Lord's blessing and protection on us all at this time.
God bless, Fr Chris

Welcome to our Parish of St Michael, Durrington and High Salvington.
St Michael's is situated to the North West of Worthing at the foot of the South Downs, overlooking the sea some two miles to the South, with beautiful views and a lovely Church set in large spacious grounds.
We are a very warm and friendly parish and belong to the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton. Bishop Richard Moth is our Bishop and was appointed by Pope Francis as the fifth Bishop of Arundel & Brighton and was installed on 28 May 2015 at Arundel Cathedral. Our church was opened on the 25th April 1966 by Bishop David Cashman, and we celebrated our Golden Jubilee in April 2016.
Welcome to our beautiful church and lovely community in which you will feel and experience the warmth of God's presence, and the Spirit of the Lord. We have many young families in the Parish, and these photos of our Church celebrate one of the highlights of our year, our First Holy Communion Day.
